9.17.05 Barrows Guide Completed, Reward Pics added 9.18.05 Puzzle Answer Section Added, Reward Pics added 9.19.05 Example Reward Pictures added. 9.20.05 Working on the FAQ Section 9.21.05 FAQ Section Done, people feel free to ask questions and I'll answer.
Welcome to my Barrows Guide. I hope that it can give you some aid on your journey through the unexplored tombs of the Legendary 6 Heroes.
1. Preperations 2. How to get there 3. What to do 4. Killing the brothers 5. Into the frey... 6. Getting out with the goods 7. Answers to puzzle doors (editing in progress.) 8. FAQ's
1. PREPERATIONS
Requirements: 43+ Prayer, 79+ Combat, 59 Magic, 50 Range, 60 Attack, 55 Slayer(Optional), 20 Defence (at least for Mystic).
Quests: Priest in Peril, Nature Spirit (or at least started), In Search of Myreque (optional), Ghosts Ahoy (for the teleport).
Here is what I bring to Barrows:
Equipment: Mystic or any good Magic Armor , Ectophial or Teleport(CRUCIAL), Rune Kite or Prayer Book, Melee Weapon (A Dragon Dagger Poisoned is effective), Air Staff (or Slayer Staff if you have 55 Slayer), 500 Fire Runes and 100 Deaths for Fire Blast (or 125 Deaths and 500 Minds for Magic Dart), Food, Druid Pouch Filled (optional), Prayer Potions (CRUCIAL), Spade (MOST CRUCIAL), Arrows, Ring of Dueling (in case you forget to bring a teleport out), Amulet of Power (can be any other kind)
2. HOW TO GET THERE:
1. Start in Canifis Bank and get all the supplies you need. 2. Go to Mort Myre Swamp.
3.Keep going south and enter the Altar of Nature Grotto. (That is if you've completed the quest.)
4. Head out and keep heading south and follow the path, eventually reaching Mort'ton.
5. Keep going east and walk over the bridge near Cyreg Paddlehorn. 6.Follow the path and enter the Graveyard.
3. WHAT TO DO
The point of the Barrows is to find the Armor and Weapons of the 6 Legendary Heroes. To do so, the soldiers who buried the heroes put the weapons into one chest to be sealed away forever because of the power they had. Inside that chest contains the deadliest weapons in the game, ready to be found by anyone. But the chest is in a maze constructed so thieves could not get to it. To enter the maze, one of the Legendary Heroes' tomb has the entrance to the maze. Here are the heroes:
Karil the Tainted ~ Level-98 (Crossbow) Verac the Defiled ~ Level-115 (Flail) Dharok the Wretched ~ Level-115 (Greataxe) Guthan the Infested ~ Level-115( Warspear) Ahrim the Blighted ~ Level-98 (Staff) Torag the Corrupted ~ Level-115 (Double Hammers)
Now let's get started searching. Each one of those mounds has a Hero Tomb contained in it. 6 Mounds, 6 Heroes:
Northeast Mound: Dharok the Wretched (Melee, High record in the 50's?) Southeast Mound: Guthan the Infested (Melee, Highest 20's) Middle Mound: Ahrim the Blighted (Magic, Highest is 20's) Southmost Mound: Karil the Tainted (Range, Highest 20's Southwest Mound: Torag the Corrupted (Melee, Highest 20's) Northwest Mound: Verac the Defiled (Melee, Low 20's) To get into the mound, use the Spade and discover what lies below. Just remember your prayer is constantly drained while underground, so watch it otherwise you're going to be hit hard.
4. KILLING THE BROTHERS It is very simple to kill all of the brothers. Just dig into the mound, search the sarcophagus, get attacked by the spirit, kill it and leave. One of them you will find to be access to the tunnel but it is very much suggested you kill all the brothers before so. Dharok:
Magic: Works extremly well Range: Horribly Melee: Moderatly Strategy: Dharok's specialty is pure power, he sacrifices speed to hitting 50's. So be careful with your prayer. When I do Barrows, I always take him on first. That way I won't run out of Prayer.
Guthan:
Magic: Works extremly well Range: Horribly Melee: Moderatly Strategy: Guthan is probably the best one of all, the special is being able to drain what he hit and transfer it to his own HP. That is of course a random happening. No real strategy here, just avoid taking damage.
Ahrim:
Magic: Moderatly Range: Works extremly well Melee: Moderatly Strategy: Ahrim is able to drain your strength plus some other melee skills. He casts Fire Wave, and can hit up to 20. My suggestion Prayer or Dragonhide and range him.
Karil:
Magic: Horribly Range: Moderatly Melee: Works Extremly Well Strategy: Karil is able to drain your agility, meaning, you'll run out of energy faster than usual. Pretty dangerous in the Wilderness, specially since it's a ranger. Get a high range defence bonus here, that's the strategy. That or prayer. Torag:
Magic: Works extremly well Range: Horribly Melee: Moderatly Strategy: Torag is able to drain your run... That isn't so great when you think about it... He's still pretty deadly. If you're going full on melee you might just want to bring a chain of some sort, he uses crush attacks.
Verac:
Magic: Works extremly well Range: Moderatly Melee: Horribly Strategy: He has no special. Gee he got left out... The armour set can hit past the armour bonuses, but it doesn't work against prayer. Definetly no full-on melee here.
5. INTO THE FREY...
Now you'll come across access to the maze when killing the brothers, it will look something like this:
Enter the Tunnel and prepare to face down the 6th Brother. Note that prayer is constantly drained here so find you're 6th Brother and kill it before you run out of prayer. Example:
You'll face some monsters along the way varying from 51-79. Here are some pics as to what the tunnels look like:
6. GETTING OUT WITH THE GOODS
As you make your way through the doors, you'll come across one door that has a puzzle lock on it. That door leads to your reward. Solve it, and gain access to the treasure room. Fail it, and you have to keep moving around until you find another puzzle door.
As you get into the room, immediatly open up the chest, search it, and claim your reward. It can vary from coins, Runes (Minds, Chaos, Deaths and Bloods), or be what you were hoping for, a piece of equipment from the Legendary Heroes. Teleport when you search the chest, you don't want to have to walk back to the ladder now (random damage occurs). Also before you search the chest make about 3 or 4 spaces open in your inventory. Rumor someone had a full load of lobsters and Teleported, but when they did, they saw a Brassard on the floor @.@
Congratulations, you completed the Barrows. Good job and good luck getting more Barrows.
7. ANSWERS TO THE PUZZLE DOORS
Ah yes, the puzzle doors, they can be a pain, yet rather easy. Some people will have trouble with them so I have decided to add this section. I am still adding on to it, but I will get to it when I find more prayer potions. Shape Puzzle, Pattern: Subtracts a side each time, Answer: Square
Square Puzzle, Pattern: Adds one square in a clockwise pattern Answer: Sqaure with 3 Highlighted Boxes moving in the clockwise pattern
Arrow Puzzle, Pattern: The arrow moves around the circle in a clockwise direction and changes postion, on its fourth move it points inward to the circle. Answer: Arrow on the right side pointing towards the circle.
8. FAQ'S The FAQ Section, one of my Favorites. Note that FAQ stands for Frequently Asked Questions! Do not ask me what FAQ means!! Q) What is the Barrows? A) It is a graveyard to the 6 Legendary Heroes Q) Why do people continue to do Barrows? A) Maybe because the rewards are great if you do it several times. Q) If I die in the Barrows, do I have to start over? A) No, if you die or leave at any time, you start at where you left. Q) What Combat Level Should I be to do this? A) I don't want to have to base it on Combat, but only the skills. Here is a list of what I think is necessary:
59 Magic 43 Prayer 38 Herblore (For those Prayer Potions, Optional if you buy them.) 50 Range 60 Attack
If you do want to increase the number of runes you get, here are the monsters you will encounter for those self concious of Combat:
Blood Worms (level-53) Crypt Rat (level-43) Giant Crypt Rat (level-60?) Skeleton (level-77) Crypt Spider (level-79)
Q) What about the Brothers? Could I melee them? Or do I need to get 59 Magic? A) Yes you could, but it isn't the wisest idea to. The Melee Brothers have very good armour and are near impenetrable with Melee. You'll be hitting alot of 0's even if you have a Whip. The only ones who need to be Melee'ed against are Karil and Ahrim.
