Hello RSBandB,
With the Morytania Tasks update around the corner, I figured now would be a good time to share the ins and outs of my favourite minigame in Runescape: Temple Trekking.
Requirements: Restless Ghost, Priest In Peril, Nature Spirit, In Search Of The Myreque, In Aid of the Myreque (unlocks Temple Trekking), and Darkness Of Hallowvale (Unlocks Burgh De Rott Ramble. Which is Temple Trekking in reverse). The Reason I recommend unlocking Burgh De Rott Ramble be fore starting is due to the fact that Temple Trekking spawns you at the Temple exit east of Canifis (The Burgh De Rott Start Point) and that Burgh De Rott Ramble Spawns you in Brugh De Rott upon completion.
It is also recommended to have fairly decent combat to slay enemies quickly. If you have low defence it is possible to safespot most of the enemies if you can manage to get them stuck behind your follower.
::::GETTING STARTED::::The Temple Trekking start point can be found here:
The Burgh De Rott Ramble start point can be found here:
::Inventory::
You should bring a cheap healing method such as an Enhanced Excalibur or a Saradomin Godsword (if you have neither, a few trout should do for a few trips if you plan on taking the easy route (which is highly recommended)).
You should also have a silver weapon of some kind (Silverlight, a Sickle, Staff of Ivandis, Ivandis' Flail, or any of the Blisterwood weapons).
You should also have a hactchet, a knife, and a tinderbox in your toolbelt.
Salve Amulet (e) is recommended for quick run-throughs of the Shade event.
I highly recommend bringing a cheap form of stackable or sackable foods.
An emergency teleport is also recommended as this is a DANGEROUS minigame
And MOST importantly a druid pouch with many charges (you can gather supplies whilst in the minigame as there are logs and limbs scattered about).
(As for equipped items: Simply wear your preferred combat gear)
Here is my inventory:
::::CHARACTERS::::To begin a game of Temple Trekking, click on the Message board near their respective monk. This will open the Character select interface which looks like this:
Each character is assigned a level of difficulty (this simply states how hard it is to complete a game with that particular character; NOT which level path you have to take). Easy (Left), Medium (Right), and Hard (Bottom). Each character has different unlocks. These include cosmetic items for you to wear, parts of the construction outfit (which provides a small xp boost while training construction), and new equipment and abilities for the character to use to assist you during the trek. The Characters and their unlocks for their respective levels are as follows:
::Temple Trekking::
Dean Vellio (Easy)
25: Backpack - Cosmetic Item
60: Butcher - Special Attack
75: Daredevil - +1 to attack speed
80: Abyssal - Abyssal Whip upgrade
Jayene Kliyn* (Medium)
25: Trained - +1 to attack speed
50: Twin Fire - Fire Two Arrows
75: Darkness - Dark Bow
99: Druidic - Ouroboros Pouch (unlimited Druid Pouch)
Smiddi Ryak (Hard)
20: Scream - Stuns Opponents
60: Raspberry - Lowers Opponents Defence
92: A&E - Casts Heal Other
99: Heal - Heal spells increased and less damage taken
::Burgh De Rott Ramble::
Pazuzu (Easy)
20: Stay put - Ability to Use Bind
66: Defenceless - Casts Vulnerability
75: Into The Light - Staff of Light
85: Item - Construction Gloves
Zachory Bragg (Medium)
25: Item Reward - Construction Boots
59: Fired Up - Casts Fire Blast
79: Rooted - Casts Entangle
99: Shortcut - You can now toggle Canifis trap door to Mort'ton
Rolayne Twickit (Hard)
20: New Hips - Ablility to run
40: Walking Stick - Cosmetic
80: Not Dead Yet - Deals Double Damage
99: Well Aged - Casts Wind Strike
*It is highly advised to start off using Jayene Kliyn, because the ouroboros pouch is the most useful reward for continuing with the minigame.
::::EVENTS::::After you select your character he/she will teleport next to the sign. Proceed to speak with them and spam through the options (You do not need to give them food. Each character will already have a stash of food on them and they will heal to full health after every event. However, you should still keep an eye on them during certain events).
You will spawn on a path like so:
You may choose to click on either the Easy(Left), Medium(Center), or Hard(Right) paths. If your character is skilled enough they can give you a hint as to what lies ahead (the skill level varies from character to character and is not listed on the character selection screen).
Your follower levels as they fight and as you complete events, so don't worry if they can't attack anything. They will still level. Some people like to "Power level" their followers by letting them attack enemies whilst tanking. I do not recommend this as it makes each run through alot longer and provides fewer rewards.
Taking the easy route is fastest as it consists of fewer events and fewer enemies. Enemies grow in level and in numbers as you visit higher difficulties, so be mindful of your health as well as your follower's. Each route also has an "Evade Event" area where you may escape if enough of the event has been completed. Upon leaving via. the "Evade Event" you will spawn in the middle of the Mort Myre Swamp.
It should also be noted that if you should die during any of the events, your gravestone will appear at the bulletin from which you started. If your follower has to tele out (as they do not "die"), you will not receive a reward token!
::VILLAGERS OF MORT'TON::
In this event, you will be attacked by 8 Medium-High level shades. Three of these shades are attacking the doors of the three huts, trying to kill the villagers inside. Equip your Salve Amulet (e) and run NORTH behind the bush out in front of the middle hut (This will draw the shades' attention away from the doors and on to you. This will also form a line of shades who will become stuck on the bush you hide behind, forcing them to attack you one at a time. Be aware of your follower's health on higher level routes as they can die quickly (especially when piled). After all the Shades have been defeated, you may talk to each of the three villagers whom will give you their blessing. Each villager has an equal chance to either Restore your prayer to full, restore your health to full, or boost your combat stats.
NOTE: You do NOT have to save the villagers in order to continue and it will not affect your rewards.
::ILL INHABITANTS::
In this event, you will find 3(easy), 4(Medium), or 5(Hard) sick inhabitants sitting on logs. If you brought the cheap food I suggested, simply use it on each of the inhabitants (you will not get it back and if you do... I'm sorry). I not, then there are snails around the camp to defeat. You must then cook the snail meat and feed it to the inhabitants. If you burn some of the food or for some reason cannot feed all of the inhabitants, then you must wait until they turn into Ghasts and defeat them.
::GHASTS::
In this event, you will face 2(easy)-6(hard) ghasts. A druid pouch is absolutely necessary unless you wish to spend alot of time here. There are logs and limbs on the ground if you need to fill your pouch and your follower does have some of their own (I suggest you use this to your advantage). I f you have plenty of druid pouch charges and do not care whether they are exhausted or not, then I suggest running through the middle of all the ghasts. This will hold the Ghast in place until you attack them, meaning that they cannot attack you all at once. The ghasts also provide 30 prayer xp upon being slain and drop decent herbs from time to time. Once the Ghasts have been defeated, move on.
NOTE: The Salve Amulet and Salve Amulet (e) have NO effect on ghasts.
::JUVINATES::
In this event, you will face 2(easy)-6(hard) Juvinates. Surprisingly enough, the juvinates do NOT increase in level as the difficulty increases, only numbers. If you recall from the quest, you can only damage juvinates with a silver weapon. To complete this even you may either hit them with a silver weapon until the turn into a poof cloud and fly away (recommended) or you can hold them with the staff of ivandis/ ivandis' flail special from which you may either kill them or force them to drink a guthix balance potion for a random effect.
::SWAMP SNAKES::
In this event, you will face 2(easy)-6(hard) Swamp Snakes. These are rather easy on the easy path, but incredible hard on the hard path as they can easily pile your follower and sometimes do NOT change target when hit. After they are killed, you may skin the dead swamp snake to obtain snakeskin (a knife is required. Toolbelt does work). They can provide 2-5 snakeskin per snake and a full inventory or snakeskin is likely after completing this task on the hard path. Snakeskin varies in price, but usually sticks around 1k each.
::NAIL BEAST::
In this event, you will face 2(easy)-6(hard) Nail Beasts. Aside from the snake event, this is the hardest event to receive as the nail beasts hit 3 times for every attack (about the speed of a longsword) and can easily pile your follower. Nail beasts drop Nail Beast Nails (Used to create Sanfew Serums) and Talon Beast Charms (Used to make Talon Beast Pouches). It is advised to at least collect the charms as this is the only way to obtain them.
::Giant Snails::
Here you will face 2-4 Giant Snails (again, the number is based on the path difficulty). These snails hit with and incredibly powerful ranged attack and can easily pile and kill your follower. They may or may not be aggressive, but they will turn their attention to you over your follower if you attack them. It is ideal to pray range and keep the snails off of your follower. If you do not have an adequate prayer level or enough prayer to defend yourself, a snelm can be used to greatly reduce the snails' ranged attack. The snails drop Snail Shell or Perfect Snail Shell which can be sold to the cave goblins (same as with long bones and such) for about 500gp. The snails have a 100% chance of dropping a Perfect Snail Shell if your follower delivers the final blow.
::SKELETAL HORDE::
Unlike the horde in dungeoneering, these skeletons will only melee you. Protect melee is advised as you will want to run around the outside area of the graveyard to lure all of the skeletons toward the center. Once you have lured all the skeletons, make a quick run around the fence in the center and into the second opening. This will ensure that all the skeletons are at least within one square of the fence. You may then click on the tomb in the center which will unleash holy power and destroy any surrounding skeletons. Don't worry if you misclick once or fail to kill all of the skeletons in one hit as you will have two chances to do so. Simply click on the tomb again to unleash a second holy blast. If you fail to kill the skeletons with the second holy blast, you must defeat the remaining skeletons yourself. Remember: Salve Amulets DO work against skeletons.
Also, this event is ONLY available on the medium and hard tasks.
::VYREWATCH::
This event is exactly the same as the Juvinate event, only this time you will face Vyrewatch that can only be killed my the Ivandis' Flail or any of the Blisterwood items. For this reason, the Vyrewatch task is only available after completing the Legacy of Seergaze quest. If you are a range tank or a pure of that sort, I recommend you do not complete Legacy of Seergaze until you are able to complete Branches of Darkmeyer, so that you may have a ranged/magic option to defeat the Vyrewatch with. These Vyrewatch will still drop Vrye Corpses and is the most worthwhile method to collect them (as you will recieve additional profit for which you may use to purchase sacred oil/pyre logs. However, this is not the fastest method for collecting Vrye Corpses).
::TARZAN SWING::
For this event you will need a knife (if you do not have one, there is a knapsack beside the entrance which you can search for one). Simply spam click the southern tree to cut a total of three vines from it, then click one of them in your inventory to tie them together. After that, spam click the branch hanging over the water to lasso the vines to it. Continue spam clicking the branch until your character swings across the water. Move on.
::NATURE SPIRIT'S GROTTO::
The nature spirit's grotto is on fire! Quickly hop across the bridge and right-click the nature spirit to select the option "WATER POWER!!!!!!". The nature spirit will then transform you into a being of water which will allow you to constantly cast water spells at the grass that is on fire. Quickly click on each of the flames once (DO NOT click on them one at a time or else it will take forever. You are able to cast more than one spell per animation. DO SO). Once all the fires are out, move on. You will return to normal on your way out.
::THE BOG::
This event is probably one of the more annoying. First, search the bush off to the side and get a branch. Use the branch on each space of the first row of the bog until you find the one the game chat says feels firm. Continue this for the surrounding "squares" until you make your way across the bog. If you only click on the bog without using the branch on it first you may sink into the bog which will exhaust more time than simply using the branch on it.
::THE BRIDGE::
Here, all you need to do is chop the trees next to the entrance and repair the bridge (requires a hatchet. If you do not have a hatchet, there is a knapsack you can search to receive one). Depending on your followers level they may assist you and cut some logs. Once you have your logs, you may click on the damaged bridge to repair it. Occasionally, three UNDEAD LUMBERJACKS will appear from the swamp. You may kill them for planks that can be used to repair the bridge instead of or in combination with the logs to repair the bridge. The undead lumberjacks also have a chance of dropping one of four pieces to the lumberjack outfit (which provides and xp boost when chopping trees whilst wearing the outfit).
NOTE: THIS IS THE ONLY POSSIBLE WAY TO OBTAIN THE LUMBERJACK OUTFIT. IT IS POSSIBLE TO OBTAIN MULTIPLES OF A PARTICULAR PIECE.
::THE SEA MONSTER::
This event is very rare and only occurs on the Hard route. You and your follower will appear in a boat which will be attacked by a Monster with tentacles that surround the boat (alot like the final boss of the fight kiln, TokHaar, only the sea monster attacks with melee). Try to position yourself to where the tentacles are dealing little to no damage to your follower. Take out the tentacles, then kill the monsters head to move on.
::THE STRANGER::
In this event, you will spot a stranger walking around the area. Talk to him and he will boost your and your followers' LP by 200 (Ignores max hp cap. Similar to how a Saradomin Brew would) and defence by 10 levels. Continue.
::::REWARDS!::::In Temple Trekking there are three types of rewards: Rewards for particular events (i.e. snakeskin or vyre corpses), Token rewards (received after completing a trek), and Level rewards (achieved by leveling your characters).
::LEVEL REWARDS::
The level rewards are based on the combined level of all of your characters from both Temple Trekking and Burghe De Rott Ramble. You can get to them by clicking on the "REWARDS" tab on the character selection interface which should look something like this:
Level 100: Shortcut toggle unlocked: Swamp gates to Nature Spirit's Grotto
Level 200: Constructor's Hat (2.5% bonus construction xp for the full set)
Level 300: Constructor's Trousers
Level 400: Constructor's Garb
Level 500: Games' Necklace Teleport option to Burgh De Rott Unlocked!
Level 594(max): You may now purchase the Ghast familiar pouch for 50kgp each. The familiar provides prayer xp when it deals damage and has a scroll that boosts prayer points by 100 (three scrolls can be used per special bar and the scroll special is NOT affected by the holy wrench or reverence aura).
::TOKEN REWARDS::
Blue token for easy, Yellow token for medium, and Red token for hard. It is possible to receive a higher or lower level token whilst following a particular level path. This is determined by the difficulty of your character as well as the difficulty of the events given. It is recommended to always take the easy route as this is the quickest way to complete treks and the best way to receive the maximum amount of profit. Currently it is in your interest to use your Blue tokens on SHARK, your yellow tokens on HERBS, and your Red tokens on HERBS (it is good to note that TORSTOL is a possible herb from a red token). However, you may wish to check prices and GE graphs for yourself as you claim your rewards, because the value of all of these rewards change over time. Currently, the previously listed items are the most solid gamble, however SILVER BARS are very close and can even exceed the maximum total value of shark and certain herbs.
